Certain key fobs also help start the engine of your car. This is useful in the event that you need to leave the vehicle during the heat of summer, or if you're carrying large items in the trunk which make it difficult to open the door manually. To unlock the car using your key fob, press the unlock button a few times in quick succession. The door locks will lock and a red light will start to flash. If it doesn't then the battery in your key fob might be dead and in need of replacement. Alternately, RF interference caused by nearby structures could interfere with your system.
Another interesting feature is that some key fobs come with a physical key that can be used to unlock the car (often only for the driver's door, but sometimes, they can also be used for the boot). They can be opened by lifting a flap or pressing a button. The physical key can be pulled out of the slot in the case.

Key fobs may be damaged by water, especially when the chips are exposed to salty or soapy water. In certain instances key fobs can stop working completely due a damaged chip. In this scenario the key fob will need to be replaced by the dealer. However, locksmiths may offer replacement keys faster than dealers and at a much lower cost.
Remote Start
If your key fob comes with the remote start feature, it allows you to turn on the engine without needing to hold the keys to your car in hand. This is particularly useful if it's hot and you want to cool down your car while you run the errands. However, there are a few things you need to know prior to making use of this feature.
Certain key fobs have a remote engine start button that you can press to start your car remotely (for instance, Ford has a circular arrow that is moving clockwise on its key fob). Mazdas, for example, require you to first lock the key and then press the Start button.
If you're unable to start your car, you may have a dead or weak battery in the key fob. The battery in the key fob isn't as strong to transmit a signal to the car system.

For this, it utilizes a unique radio signal which is only transmitted when the key is within a specific range of the vehicle. A solenoid in the door lock transforms the electronic command into an actual mechanical one after the signal has been detected. This is when a rod turns to operate the door locks just as the physical key could.
There are a myriad of reasons for the Peugeot keyfob that's not locking or unlocking your car. The most common is an unresponsive coin battery which can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Other reasons include worn-out buttons, signal interference or water damage or a malfunctioning chip.
Modern cars require a very high level of precision to function, and the key fob isn't immune to this. Key fobs can be programmed incorrectly, or have an issue with the hardware that stops it from receiving a signal from the vehicle. A locksmith certified by the ICRC can reprogram the key fob and ensure that it is compatible with your vehicle.
Immobiliser
Peugeot were one of the first car manufacturers to incorporate an immobiliser chip in a key. The chip prevents the car from starting if it sees an untrue signal coming from the key to the car. If it's new, this is great, but as they age the chips will wear out and cause issues. This typically starts with an alert that reads 'anti theft system active on the dashboard or a warning light blinking indicating "immobiliser fault".

Generally Peugeot keys start to have problems because the key blade wears out. This wear causes the mouth of the key to stop being able to enter the lock in a proper manner, causing more wear on the locks themselves. The issue can be fixed by simply changing the blade. It could also be beneficial to have the teeth on the key cleaned to enable them to operate more efficiently. Only a licensed auto locksmith is able to do this, but it can save you a lot of time and money in the end.
